The Little Drops collectible statues series help your children, grandchildren or godchildren to learn about Jesus, Mary and the Saints.

John was born in 1786, in a peasant family in France.

He started working when he was a child, and at 17 he was still illiterate. The lack of studies and the persecution of priests at that time made it difficult for him to start his religious journey. With the help of priest Father Balley, parish priest of Écully, John was ordained as a priest in 1815.

In 1818, he was sent to Ars where he spent the rest of his life. He founded the Institute of "Providence" to welcome orphans, helped the poorest and neediest, visited the sick. He went on to administer what became known as the Sacrament of Confession. Every year thousands of people came to Ars to confess.

John Vianney died at the age of 73 and his remains are in the Sanctuary of Ars, visited annually by thousands of pilgrims.

He was beatified in 1905 by Pope Pius X, and canonised in 1925 by Pope Pius XI, who also proclaimed him "patron of the parish priests of the world" in 1929.

His feast day is 4 August.
